Lithophany is an old art form from the early 19th century. The name is derived from lithos - the stone and phanos - transparent thin porcelain. The elaborately designed images by artistic hand show charming scenes. Different light permeability through highs and lows in the relief make the motifs appear three-dimensional and dynamic. A flickering candlelight brings the once hidden images to life.
